FlashSoft SE-V

FlashSoft SE-V accelerates application performance on Linux and Windows Server in virtual machine environments based on VMware vSphere. The new solution is based on the FlashSoft SE software that enables enterprise flash as a server-tier cache, and is already used today in business-critical production environments. FlashSoft brings the same performance benefits to applications running on virtual machines (VMs) based on the VMware ESXi software platform.

FlashSoft SE-V employs any standard SATA, SAS or PCIe SSD to accelerate the performance and scalability of applications in virtual machines.

Operating Systems

Guest (VM) operating system

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit)
  • Linux: RHEL/CentOS/Oracle 6

Host (platform) operating system: Host: VMware vSphere ESXi

SSD Hardware:

FlashSoft runs on any standard SSD or flash PCIe. To use a single SSD or PCIe flash card with multiple VMs, the SSD/flash PCIe should be partitioned, with each partition dedicated to a specific VM.

  • Minimum cache size: 8GB
  • Maximum cache size: 1TB

The optimal size cache depends on the number of virtual machines supported, the amount of data on the volumes being accelerated, the applications running in the VMs, and the peak utilization. Please consult a FlashSoft representative to discuss the optimal SSD for your needs.

Server Memory & CPU

  • Memory utilization: 150MB
  • Recommended CPU: Dual core or greater
  • CPU utilization: 3% - 5%

Pricing and Availability

The new FlashSoft SE-V product is licensed for use in multiple VMs running on a single VMware server. The virtual machines may run either Linux or Windows Server. License cost is based the number of virtual machines on the server, and the SSD or PCIe flash card used to host the cache.
